In the Apostle’s opening remarks to the church at Philippi, Paul makes this thought-provoking statement; “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you”.  (Philippians 1:3).  What a lesson for us this is, during this week in which we celebrate Thanksgiving!

Paul was in prison in Rome when he penned these words and he was a great distance from the Philippian believers.  He did not have their presence; all he had was the memory of their time together.  And sitting there in prison, remembering their love and care and support, his heart swelled up with thanksgiving for them, and he thanked God for them.

If Paul thanked God for believers who were so far away from him, how much more should we thank God for each other every day?  We have the love, care, and support of each other week-by-week and day-by-day.  We can call upon each other for help any hour of any day.  Yet how often do we thank God for each other?  We should be following Paul's example and thanking God for all believers every day.

We are not alone in the world.  God is building a body of people worldwide—a body of people who are just like us—committed to live for the Lord Jesus Christ and to carry His gospel to a world that reels under the weight of desperate need.  We do not stand alone.  We belong to a great family, a family of believers who constitute the family of God.

What an amazing group of people God has assembled at SouthPoint Church and what a privilege it is for me to lead and feed those whom God has sent our way.  You are in my daily prayers.  I enjoy praying for each family and each member of our church by name.  I really am thankful for you – for your kindness to Vicki and me, for your faithfulness in attendance and financial support, and for our willingness to step out in faith to begin this great church for the glory of God.

Yes, I thank God upon every remembrance of you.  As you enjoy these special days of Thanksgiving, make sure you thank God for our brothers and sisters in Christ at SouthPoint Church and around the world.
