Just as fathers and mothers desire to meet the needs of their children, as an expression of their love for them, so also our Heavenly Father delights in answering our prayers. However, prayer is much more than our coming to God and making requests of Him. Prayer is a precious experience of communion and worship - getting to know our Father and ourselves better.
Prayer is one of the supreme privileges we have in the Christian life and God delights in answering prayer.
During the month of October, the emphasis at SouthPoint Church will be on prayer – both private and corporate prayer. I will be preaching a series of messages on Sundays and Thursdays that I am simply calling, “Thirst”. Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” (Matthew 5:6)
One of the truths the Lord has been pressing home to my heart in recent days is that if I want to know the intensity of my spiritual thirst, then I have to look into the intensity of my prayer life.
Charles G. Finney said, “I am convinced that nothing in Christianity is so rarely attained as a praying heart.”
Only as we pray, can our lives be what God wants them to be. Only as we pray, can we know the secret of victory over sin and over the power of the enemy. Only as we pray, can our Christian service be what it ought to be.
Plan now to attend every service in order to learn as much as possible about prayer. Remember, however, what the Apostle James said, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves”. (James 1:22) It is not enough to learn about prayer if we do not actually pray. “Lord, teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1)
Ask God to give you a greater desire and a greater determination to be the prayer warrior God would have you be.
